TOLEDO, OH – October 6, 2025, is a bitter-sweet day for the seniors at Saint Ursula Academy as college applications are due. Four years of work compiled into one moment, and just like that, it is out of their hands.

Since freshman year, all the students at SUA have been told how important college is. As the current seniors at SUA complete the application process, they are now looking to determine their best-fit college.

Everyone had a different path and experience through this process. Kenzie Williams, a current senior, has applied to seven colleges and has written well over 20 essays. Kayden Campbell, another senior, applied to only two colleges and wrote one essay.

Rebecca Tobias, SUA’s college counselor, is involved in the entire process of college applications, including essay writing.

She is currently reading all of the juniors' college essays while helping seniors finish the application process and apply for scholarships. When asked why she likes her career, she quickly said that she doesn’t like her job; she loves it.

“I love the students, I love the families, I love my coworkers, and I love the mission,” said Tobias.

Mrs. Tobias walks each student through the entire process, from freshman year, when they learn about college, to sophomore year, when they learn about themselves, junior year, when they put in the hard work with activities resumes and college essays, and finally to senior year, when they fill out the Common App and apply for scholarships.

SUA students have achieved considerable success on their college journeys in the past. One hundred percent of the class of 2025 was accepted into a college last year.

Students are most looking forward to knowing where they are going to school. Campbell says it will be a relief to have less uncertainty in her life.

As the class of 2026 finishes their applications, the entire SUA community is there to support them.

No matter where they go or what they do, the teachers and administrators at SUA are thrilled to watch them make these decisions and become leaders in their communities.

Andrew McGurk, a teacher at SUA who is often asked to write letters of recommendation for seniors, wishes that “the decisions that you make are ones that you’re happy with.”

Mrs. Tobias's best piece of advice to the seniors is to “just be confident in who you are and what you bring to the table.”
