TOLEDO, OH – The Learning Commons has become one of the most popular and valuable resources for Saint Ursula Academy students. It’s a place where students can receive tutoring, testing accommodations and complete their schoolwork. Its accessibility makes it an essential resource for students' success at SUA.
The TLC is available for students before school, during daily seminars, and after school. The convenience of the TLC allows students to get one-on-one attention from teachers or tutors.
“I definitely think the TLC is beneficial for other students, especially people who are having a hard time finding good study habits or just need different ways to study,” said Reaghan Meyer ’26, a senior at SUA.
This resource helps students balance their workload in a structured space. SUA reports that 81% of students use the TLC each year.
Samantha Meklus ’18, Campus Minister for Christian Service and a former student at SUA, reflected on her own experience with the TLC. During her time at Saint Ursula Academy, the TLC functioned as a library that did not offer the resources that it does now.
“If (the TLC) had been more available when I was here, I would have taken more advantage of it,” said Ms. Meklus.
Teachers see benefits as well. Having a dedicated space to meet with students makes it easier to provide support than trying to squeeze in extra help during class time.
“I always tell my students to come to the TLC because that's the only place they can find me,” said Marie Blesing, a Mathematics teacher and tutor at SUA. The TLC offers students who are struggling an opportunity to receive additional help from their teachers.
The Learning Commons isn’t just a place to get help. The quiet atmosphere provides a comfortable place where all students, at every level, can study and complete their homework.
“I like the fact that the honors and AP kids come… It tells the rest of the school there's no stigma going on,” said Sara Westick, the TLC coordinator.
Overall, the TLC represents SUA's commitment to creating an environment where students have the opportunity to succeed. By offering both academic support and a welcoming space for learning, the TLC has become an important part of students' growth and achievement.
